Rare Confederate Broadside, Address to the Soldiers of Kentucky
Broadside
Printed Broadside, "Address To the Soldiers of Kentucky, in the Army of the Confederate States", 1p, 10" x 12.5", no place, undated, but circa 1862. Verso is blank. Flattened folds with a tiny bit of separation at bottom edge. Isolated age toning. Corner wear. Ink transfer at lower portion from folding. Overall, in near fine condition and scarce.

A rousing patriotic appeal urging the soldiers of Kentucky to support the Confederate cause. In part: "A resolution adopted by the Council of the Provisional Government of Kentucky, made it the duty of the undersigned committee to issue an address to you. / In a time of revolution, like the present, when the sword is mightier than the pen...we feel a delicacy in addressing words of counsel to you, instead of adding numbers to your ranks...an election for twelve members of Congress, to represent you in the Congress of the Confederate States, will be held...Our Congressional Delegation should be kept up. The cause in which we are engaged, demands it...for whilst in forced allegiance to the Lincoln government, at heart they loathe its mockeries...Soldiers of Kentucky! to you whose valor is attested by a hundred battle fields...Thousands of hearts at home beat high in unison with yours...The people of the South love and respect you...Since freedom or slavery are the conditions between which you choose, let 'liberty or death' be your watchword..." Committee: J. R. Barrick, J. P. Burnside, Wm. Messick, Sam'l Gray, H. F. Simrall, and R. Hawes, Governor.
