ROBERT F. KENNEDY (1925-1968) Rare Autograph Letter Signed Bobby as U.S. Senator, 1p, 6" x 8". U.S. Senate stationery, Washington, D.C., no date but with original 6.25" x 4.25" Senate envelope postmarked February 27, 1968. To “Dave Powers / Boston." Paper clip rust mark at blank upper left edge. Fine condition.

In full, “Dear Dave, Many thanks for coming to Washington and being such a good sport. I was looking forward to your position on the program with great anticipation. I think 15 minutes of your talking to some of the athletic figures would have been marvelous – I am sorry that part did not work out – But you were great as always, Bobby"

Thurston Clark wrote in “The Last Campaign: Robert F. Kennedy and the 82 Days that Inspired America" (New York: Henry Holt, 2008), while RFK officially announced his candidacy for the 1968 Democratic presidential nomination on March 16th, “the consensus of Kennedy’s friends and advisers is that he had decided to enter the race in mid- to late February or early March…"

Ethel Kennedy, wife of Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, helped organize a telethon held from 8PM Saturday, February 17, 1968, until 1AM Sunday morning on television station WTTG in Washington, D.C., to benefit Junior Village, the District of Columbia Welfare Department’s home for dependent children. More than 50 athletes, politicians, and entertainers appeared on the five-hour telethon to raise money to build recreation facilities at Junior Village.

Acrylic memento, 2.25" x 2.25" x 1", gilt lettering “Junior Village / Telethon / February 17, 1968 / Bobby an Ethel" given by them to Dave Powers, JFK’s close friend and confidant, is present. Also, three 4.5" x 3.5" photos of RFK campaigning in Seattle, March 1968.
