Rare 1800's Louis Vuitton Bill for Leather Trunk Dated One Year Before Launch of Iconic LV Logo!

Maison Louis Vuitton Invoice, Paris, France, dated April 17, 1895, made out to Mrs. Dawson for a leather bound basket trunk which sold for 53 francs (nearly $600 today). The invoice features a 10 centime revenue stamp placed over a signature. The rare Vuitton piece measures 8.25" x 10.75", and features light toning, expected folds, else in fine condition.

Louis Vuitton, born in 1821 in Anchay, France, rose from humble beginnings to become a pioneering figure in luxury fashion. By the 1890s, Vuitton had firmly established his reputation as a master of high-end luggage craftsmanship. In 1854, he opened his own shop in Paris, which quickly became synonymous with quality and innovation. The introduction of his flat-topped trunks in the 1850s revolutionized the travel goods industry, making them easier to stack during journeys.

By the 1890s, Louis Vuitton's business was thriving, buoyed by the increasing popularity of travel among the affluent. His dedication to craftsmanship and his innovative use of materials, like the waterproof canvas introduced in 1872, set his products apart in a burgeoning market for luxury goods. The iconic Louis Vuitton monogram, a symbol of luxury still recognized today, was introduced by his son, Georges Vuitton, in 1896, two years after Louis' death, to honor his father's legacy.
