Kiner Ralph

Ralph Kiner Owned Pair of Cufflinks with NYC Seal

Pair of cufflinks personally owned by National Baseball Hall of Famer Ralph Kiner (1922-2014). Each gold-filled cufflink features an enamel-ringed bas relief New York City seal at top. Presented in a vintage jewelry box with custom blue velvet mount. Each cufflink measures approximately .875" dia. In very good to near fine condition, with isolated light tarnish. Provenance: Acquired directly from the Kiner Family.

Did Ralph Kiner receive this pair of New York City seal cufflinks in 1986, when the entire New York Mets baseball team was awarded Keys to the City in honor of their World Championship win over the Boston Red Sox? Or as a sort of lifetime achievement award in recognition of his service to the Mets? It's possible. Kiner, along with other sports analysts Lindsey Nelson (1919-1995) and Bob Murphy (1924-2004), served as longtime Mets sportscasters. In addition, Kiner hosted his own segment called "Kiner's Korner" and commentated Chicago White Sox and New York Mets games for 53 seasons, making him the third-longest active baseball sportscaster of all time.

Over his 9-year-long professional baseball career, Ralph Kiner played left field for the Pittsburgh Pirates (1946-1953), Chicago Cubs (1953-1954), and Cleveland Indians (1955). He was a 7x home run leader, with a lifetime batting average of .279. After a serious back injury, Kiner retired at age 32. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1975, and the New York Mets Hall of Fame in 1984.
