Princess Diana and Prince Charles of Wales
London, England, July 29, 1981
Princess Diana & Prince Charles Royal Wedding Cake!
Relic

Preserved slice of fruit cake from the historic wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer, held on July 29, 1981. The cake is housed in its original commemorative white box, which features the Prince of Wales's heraldic feathers above the intertwined initials "C" and "D," along with the date and location: Buckingham Palace, 29th July 1981. The cake itself remains wrapped in its original waxed paper lining, still visibly intact, though aged consistent with over four decades of preservation. The cake box measures 3.125" x 4.5."

This particular slice was sent to Mrs. Greta Evans of the Isles of Scilly. While the original letter that accompanied the cake is not included, a copy of a typed letter dated October 7, 1981 is present. The letter, on Buckingham Palace stationery, expresses thanks for a wedding gift received through the Duchy of Cornwall.

The marriage of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer was one of the most celebrated royal events of the 20th century, watched by an estimated 750 million people around the globe. Held at St. Paul's Cathedral, the event was marked by grandeur, tradition, and deep public affection. As part of royal wedding customs, slices of the official wedding cake were distributed to guests and dignitaries, often accompanied by decorative boxes or cards.

The official wedding cake was a towering five-tiered traditional British fruit cake standing over five feet tall and weighing approximately 225 pounds. It was created by David Avery, the head baker at the Royal Naval Cookery School, who spent 14 weeks preparing it. Decorated with the Prince of Wales's coat of arms, the Spencer family crest, and floral symbols of the UK, it was one of 27 cakes made to commemorate the royal nuptials.
