A group of seven important nineteenth century political pamphlets. Details about each individual item appears below.

1. Eulogy on the Life and Character of James Madison, Fourth President of the United States, Delivered at the Request of the Mayor, Aldermen, and Common Council of the City of Boston, September 27, 1836. By John Quincy Adams. Boston: American Stationers' Company, 1836. 90pp. 5.25" x 8.5", bound in green paper wrappers. Edges exhibit wear and toning, wrappers bear light staining, with an ink ownership signature and cataloguing label on front wrapper. Overall good condition.

In this eloquent remembrance of America's fourth president, John Quincy Adams offers a biographical sketch of James Madison focused on his service to the nation, especially his contributions as the "father of the Constitution."

2. Mr. Daveis' Address Delivered at Portland, on the Decease of John Adams & Thomas Jefferson, August 9, 1826. Portland [Maine]: James Adams, Jr., 1826. 55pp. 6" x 9.25", bound in brown wrappers. Edges exhibit wear and toning, vertical fold and weakening to cover along with a cataloguing label affixed thereon; ownership signature and stamp on half title page.

Charles Stewart Daveis (1788-1865) was a prominent attorney in Maine, known for his eloquent orations given at colleges and elsewhere.

3. The Democratic Text-Book Containing the Lives of Pierce and King, with Illustrations of the Whig and Democratic Principles and Candidates. James Fullerton: Philadelphia, [1852]. 36pp. 48pp. 5.5" x 8.5", disbound. Light foxing and wear throughout, generally good.

4. Sketches of the Lives of Franklin Pierce and Wm. R. King. Democratic Party National Committee: 1852-1856. 36pp. 6" x 9". Disbound, moderate to heavy foxing throughout.

5. Vindication of the Military Character and Services of General Franklin Pierce by his Companions in Arms in Mexico [Washington? 1852]. 16pp. 6" x 9". Disbound, wear and tearing to edges, toning at bottom margin, overall good.

This campaign pamphlet, headed "Please Read and Circulate," includes letters from army officers who were associates of Pierce in Mexico: I. I. Stevens, N. E. Smith, James Shields, O. F. Winship and others.

6. Fillmore's Political History and Position. George Law and Chauncey Staffer's Reasons for Repudiating Fillmore and Donelson. By E. B. Morgan. [Washington? 1856]. 16pp. 6" x 8.5". Disbound with light, scattered foxing and wear, overall good.

Edward Barber Morgan (1806-1881) was the first president of Wells Fargo & Company, and a three-term senator from New York.

7. Plain Words. Comprises an open letter to the Democratic senators and representatives of New Jersey. No author, place or publication date, and possibly a portion of a longer pamphlet. 7pp. 6" x 9". Disbound, with scattered foxing and wear.

Unless otherwise indicated, we do our own in-house world-wide shipping!

Applicable shipping and handling charges will be added to the invoice. We offer several shipping options, and remain one of the few auction houses that proudly provides professional in-house shipping as an option to our clients. All items will ship with a signature required option, and full insurance. Most items are sent via Federal Express, with P. O. Box addresses being sent through USPS. We insure through Berkley Asset Protection with rates of $.70 per $100 of value, among the lowest insurance rates in the industry. Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.

Upon winning your item(s), you will receive an invoice with our in-house shipping and handling fees included. ***We will ship to the address as it appears on your invoice. If any changes to the shipping address need to be made, you must inform us immediately.***

International shipments: In order to comply with our insurance provider, all international shipments will be sent via Fed Ex and customs paperwork will show a value of $1.00. International buyers should contact our office directly with any questions regarding this policy.

Third-Party Shipping Option: If a third-party shipper is preferred, the buyer is responsible for contacting them directly to make shipping arrangements. For your convenience, we have provided some recommended shippers. For your protection, we will require a signed release from you, confirming your authorization for us to release your lots to your specified third-party. At that point, our responsibility and insurance coverage for your item(s) ceases. Items picked up by third-party shippers are required to pay Connecticut sales tax. Items requiring third-party shipping due to being oversized, fragile or bulky will be denoted in the item description.
