Truman Harry 1884 - 1972 President Truman signs a Dwight D. Eisenhower, American Red Cross Citation for distinguished service
Large American Red Cross Citation awarded to Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1949 and signed by "Harry Truman", as President of The United States. 14" x 11" on card stock. Fine condition.
An attractive, rare, and large American Red Cross Citation awarded to Dwight D. Eisenhower, dated 1949 (several years before his presidential term) in "Grateful Recognition of Distinguished Humanitarian Service During the 1949 Fund Campaign". Signed by President Harry Truman. Although the citation does not go into more detail, one can presume it may have likely revolved around Eisenhower's contribution with his involvement in numerous pre and post war efforts. The Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center (EAMC) is a 93-bed medical treatment facility started as Camp Gordon Station Hospital in 1941, located near Augusta, Georgia which was set up to care for World War II casualties and dependents. Although closed in 1946, it reopened as Camp Gordon and became the more permanent Fort Gordon during the Cold War. In addition Eisenhower championed the rebuilding and aid to Western Europe, the POW's and to "European Recovery Program", an American initiative to aid Western Europe to rebuild their economies and help the civilians after the end of World War II. The plan was in operation for four years beginning April 8, 1948, with the intent to assist in rebuilding war devastated regions.
A unique award, in crisp, clean condition which would present well framed.
