President Truman signed Citation, w/ the accompanying award, the Legion of Merit to a Russian officer


Document signed "Harry S. Truman", one page, no date, 8" x 10.5", White House stationery. In full: "Citation for the Legion of Merit, Degree of Legionnaire Major Evdokim Ivanovich Sirorov, as Commanding Officer of the 311th Infantry Division Artillery, Red Army, performed meritorious service from 1 January to 2 May 1945. During the westward offensive in which his division participated, he personally coordinated the fire of his artillery units with the advance of infantry in a skillful manner which aided extensively in continued successes against enemy resistance. He frequently selected positions for the guns in his unit and gave information to his battalion commanders. The superior tactical knowledge and leadership displayed by Major Sidorov reflect high credit upon himself and the military service of his country. (signed) Harry S. Truman".




Also included is the Legion of Merit award certificate of Major Sidorov with the raised seal of the War Office, which is dated April 6, 1946.
