FRANKLIN PIERCE (1804-1869) Autograph Letter Signed "Franklin Pierce," 3p, 5" x 8", front & verso of two conjoined sheets, Andover, Massachusetts, December 20, 1861, to F.N. Bloon Esq. Hillsboro, N.H. Mounting remnants on blank verso of fourth page. Expertly strengthened at folds. Fine condition.

In part, "When I parted with my Brother the other day, he in reply to my most earnest request for the payment of the $742.00 which I advanced for the cattle purchased in the Spring and recently sold by him, promised in the most solemn manner that he would pay at least five hundred dollars of the sum tomorrow (Saturday) I hope he will not fail to fulfil this promise. If he shall do so, it it [sic] will be the sorest of the many sore disappointments which have attended my most trying connection with his embarrassd. & headlong pecuniary affairs. Please to write me on Monday. If the money is paid, as I most earnestly hope it may be, endorse it on his account, rendered to me with regard to the purchaser of the cattle last spring and which I sent to you on by mail two or three weeks since. If the sum has not been paid do not fail to call on my Brother immediately..."

Franklin Pierce had one half-sister, three sisters, and four brothers. Eight years younger than Franklin, his brother Henry Dearborn Pierce (1812-1880) was his only living sibling at the time of this letter.
