Description:

Boulle Pierre 1912 - 1994 Planet of the Apes author Pierre Boule thanks a fan the year film was released.

1pp unlined cream stationery inscribed "P. Boulle, 18 rue Juret, Paris (16:)" at top left corner and signed "G. Boulle" at bottom right in blue ball point pen. Deckled right edge suggests note was pulled out of a booklet. In very fine condition, with expected paper folds. Page measures 5.25" x 8.25".

Note dated December 8, 1968 and addressed to a "M. Lentz" thanks him "for your letter & for all the kind things you say about my books". Pierre Boulle (1912-1994) was a prolific fiction and non-fiction writer. His most famous early novel Bridge over the River Kwai (1952) was inspired by Boulle's real life incarceration as a prisoner of war during World War II in Singapore. Boulle changed gears to produce his science fiction cult classic Planet of the Apes, a translated version of which appeared in 1964. In 1968, the award-winning film version of Planet of the Apes starring Charleton Heston was released. Although it is likely that the recent release of Planet of the Apes prompted Mr. Lentz's fan letter, he might have been motivated by some of Boulle's dozens of other popular short stories and novels.
