Geronimo 1829 - 1909 Geronimo signed and embellished cabinet photo. Of the few known this is the finest by a considerable margin, and has exception provenance from a descendant of the recipient.



A monochromatic 5" x 7" cabinet photograph of Geronimo. Signed by him to the front along the bottom edge as "Geronimo" in graphite, with additional graphite embellishments by him. Affixed to a mat backing. Light edgewear with slight chipping. Tiny crease to upper left corner. Mat grubby with slight staining. Matted to an overall size of 7" x 9". Accompanied by provenance.


A very rare, handsome cabinet photograph of Geronimo. One of the very few known extent. Presented and autographed to Anna G. Conklin at the St. Louis Exposition in 1904 at the Government Building. Geronimo was a U.S. Prisoner at the time. Facial markings and signature were added by Geronimo who remarked that they made him better looking. The photo was handed down several generations within the Conklin family and was directly acquired by descent from the great great great, grandson of Anna Conklin, with this being the first time it has been become available for sale. The verso of mat has an inscription in the hand of Anna Conklin "Presented + autographed by Geronimo, Anna G. Conklin at the St Louis Exposition in 1904, at the Government Building. Geronimo as at the ... "

Scarce signed, and with documented provenance, establishing the direct chain of custody from within the Conklin family over 3 generations.
