Thomson Charles 1729 - 1824 Amazing Archive includes five letters and documents signed by Patriot Charles Thomson and his farm ledger with over fifty pages in his hand

(1) Manuscript Letter Signed "Chas Thomson" as Secretary of Congress, 1 page, 8" x 12.5". Office of Secretary of Congress, [New York], April 1, 1786. To "His Excellency The Governor of Connecticut." On laid paper watermarked with "GR" beneath a royal crown [George R, King George III]. Fine condition. In full: "Pursuant to the order of Congress I herewith transmit to your Excellency to be communicated to the Legislature a State of representation for last month. I also enclose two copies of the Journal as far as printed - on for the legislative & the other for the executive branch of Government. With the greatest respect I have the honor to be Your Excellency's Most Obedient & Most humble Servt."

(2) Autograph Letter Signed "Chas Thomson" above an Autograph Document Signed "Chas Thomson," 1 page, 6.25" x 7.5". Bethlehem. Philadelphia , December 2, 1764. Partial separation at one fold. Inlaid to 8.5" X 10". Addressed on verso to John Francis Oberlin, The ALS, in part, "I recd your kind favours of 29th Ult with Σ43.8 for which & former you have herewith a Rect..." The ADS "Chas Thomson," a handwritten receipt, is dated by Thomson October 4, 1764. Minor flaws. Fine condition.

(3) Autograph Document Signed "Chas Thomson," 1 page, 7.75" x 3.75". Harriton, December 10, 1821. Bank cancellation cuts through signature. In full, "Harriton, Decr 10th. 1821 / Cashier of the Bank of the United / States pay to Pompey Smith or bearer / twenty dollars. Chas Thomson." Fine condition.

(4) Banknote Signed "Chas Thomson" and "[first name very faded] Morris", 2.75" x 3.5". Twenty shilling engraved note issued by the "Province of Pensylvania, according to an Act of Assembly, made in the 32d year of the Reign of George II. Dated April 25, 1759..." The province's name is purposely misspelled to deter counterfeiters. Verso blank. Issued to support military expenditures associated with the French and Indian War. Signatures faded. Worn, chipped at edges. Good condition.

(5) Ledger, 64 pages, 4.5" x 7". Leather covers. Penned on cover in unknown hand "Charles Thomson / Farm book." First ten pages in unknown hand record debits and credits, headed "Dr Bank of New York with Charles Thomson Esqr Cr.," 1787-1789. In 1789, Thomson retired from Congress to his farm, Harriton, in Bryn Mawr. Remaining 54 pages are all penned by Charles Thomson, dated 1788-1819. At the end of the book are an additional five pages bearing varied receipts to Thomson dated 1790-1816. All relate to his farm.

Also included are photocopies of letters of Thomson as Secretary of Congress, engraved and printed portraits of Thomson, and related items.
