The document has been mounted and framed along with a portrait of Henry to the overall size of 28" x 18". The margins have been closely trimmed, with the loss of a few letters, signature not affected. Flattened folds and creasing. There is a tear and small hole at the lower margin. Minor paper loss at the edges. Staining and wear throughout. Boldly signed.

James Wilson (1742-1798) was one of the Founding Fathers of the United States and a signatory of the United States Declaration of Independence. He immigrated from Scotland to the American colonies in 1766, whereupon he opened a successful private law practice in central Pennsylvania. He was elected twice to the Continental Congress, where he represented Pennsylvania and was a major force in drafting the United States Constitution. A leading legal theorist, he was one of the six original justices appointed by George Washington to the Supreme Court of the United States.

Shortly after the Revolutionary War, Wilson became involved in lands speculation and partnered with Michael and Bernard Gratz, Levi Hollingsworth, Charles Willing, and Dorsey Pentecost to purchase 321,000 acres of land south of the Ohio River. The land in Fayette and Montgomery Counties in Virginia was very close to a tract owned by George Washington and was subsequently subdivided into 1,000 acre tracts.
