Oskar Schindler Signed Wire Transfer from Argentina, Following WWII

1p, measuring 8" x 4.75", Buenos Aires, Argentina, dated December 13, 1952. A wire transfer in Spanish for the sum of 2600 Argentinean pesos to be sent to Gertrude Tutsuth, signed on verso by Schindler "Oskar Schindler", authorizing the transfer. Ticket No. 11286, with the front bearing an "Italo Argentina of International Transport, Travel and Tourism Section" stamp. In fine condition, minor toning at edges. Boldly signed.

Despite being a member of the Nazi Party, Oskar Schindler had exhausted his life savings working to save 1,200 Jews during World War II. With financial aid from a Jewish organization, he and his wife Emilie moved to Argentina in 1949, to begin a new life, taking up farming. Like many former Nazis, Schindler was also in danger of being arrested as a war criminal due to his political connections. Between 1946 and 1950, President Juan Perón of Argentina ordered to have safe havens or "ratlines" created for prominent Nazis to encourage them to immigrate to his country. Schindler lived there for a time until his business went bankrupt and he was forced to return to Germany. He died in 1974 and was buried in Jerusalem on Mount Zion. His heroics during World War II were later immortalized in the famous 1993 film "Schindler's List".
