Description:

17th Century England - Ornate 17th Century court document concerning a coachmaker

Manuscript document, one page, 6.5" x 6.5". Westminster, England, 1644. Light soiling; glue remnants on verso which do not show through. Fine condition with folds.

In part, "Hee [sic] most humbly submits himself to your worships favours, praying that in pitty [sic] of his poore [sic] estate, and there being...information to the uttermost of his power to restraine [sic] Coaches from standing at his doore [sic], as...as possible (though other coachmen here are not questioned for the like) that your worships pleased to take pitty [sic] upon him and to quitt [sic] him from further trouble herein hee [sic] beholding himself as humble and neare [sic] as possible not to offend any further herein."

In excellent shape for its age, this document is written in defense of John Tully, a coachmaker. In his defense, the petition calls on Tully's good character as member of his parish, his hard work, and how he has been punished enough through what sounds like mistreatment by authorities.
