George VI of England King 1895 - 1952 Original Needlework Honoring the Coronation of King George VI

Colorful Original Needlework, 16.75" x 20.25" (visible). Framed to 17.5" x 21". Honoring the coronation of King George VI. In apparent fine condition.

Embroidered beneath the Coat of Arms" "May 12 / 1937 / George VI Elizabeth." Depicting six officers riding horses, nine royal guards with the royal coach in the center, and floral decorations. Embroidered in lower right "'38" indicating this needlework was created in 1938, and embroidered in lower left are the initials PT, most probably the initials of the artisan.

King Edward VIII abdicated the throne on December 11, 1936. His brother Albert succeeded him as King George VI. Prince Albert had married Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon in 1923 and they had two daughters, Elizabeth and Margaret. King George VI was coronated on May 12, 1937, the date previously intended for Edward's coronation. Upon King George's death on February 6, 1952, his elder daughter succeeded him as Queen Elizabeth II.
