Oliver Wolcott Jr. Payment Sheet with Four Certificates, 1789

Hartford, Connecticut, dated February 14, 1789 (computed) and written August 10, 1789. A sheet of four payment slips, numbered 4867-4870. Measuring 7.75" x 12.5". The sheet has minor edge toning, else very fine.

For payments "Received of Oliver Wolcott, Comptroller of the Public Accounts…". All are made out to Philip Sellew, along with other co-recipients. No. 4867 is a payment of 1 pound 10 pence , being interest on State Notes for John House and Philip Sellew. No. 4868 is a payment of 1 pound 7 shillings and 11 pence , being interest on State Notes for Nathan Loveland and Philip Sellew. No. 4869 is a payment of 15 shillings and 5 pence , being interest on State Notes for Elizabeth Hubbard and Philip Sellew. And No. 4870 is a payment of 14 shillings and 6 pence , being interest on State Notes for Thomas Hollister and Philip Sellew. 

Oliver Wolcott Jr. (1760-1833) was the second United States Secretary of the Treasury, a judge of the United States Circuit Court for the Second Circuit, and the 24th Governor of Connecticut. Born in Litchfield, Connecticut, Wolcott served in the Continental Army from 1777 to 1779, during the American Revolutionary War, then graduated from Yale University in 1778 and studied law in 1781. He became clerk of the Connecticut Committee on Pay-Table from 1781 to 1782, then continued as a member of the Connecticut Committee on Pay-Table from 1782 to 1784. He went on to serve as the second U.S. Secretary of the Treasury during the Washington and Adams administrations as Alexander Hamilton's successor. When Wolcott died in 1833, he was the last surviving cabinet member of the Washington administration.

We insure through Berkley Asset Protection with rates of $.70 per $100 of value, among the lowest insurance rates in the industry. Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.

Upon winning your item(s), you will receive an invoice with our in-house shipping and handling fees included. ***We will ship to the address as it appears on your invoice. If any changes to the shipping address need to be made, you must inform us immediately.***

International shipments: In order to comply with our insurance provider, all international shipments will be sent via Fed Ex and customs paperwork will show a value of $1.00. International buyers should contact our office directly with any questions regarding this policy.
