An autograph note signed by New York leader of the Locofoco political faction, Levi D. Slamm. 1p of a bifolium, measuring 8" x 10", New York, dated March 1, 1837. Signed "Levi D. Slamm" as a Committee Member and addressed to Edward Curtis Esq. Slamm writes to Curtis to forward the preceding resolutions from the "Equal Rights Party". Countersigned by H. Byndsall and John Windt. At the top margin of the note is adhered a newspaper clipping which reports on the General Meeting resolutions held on February 27th, between James L. Stratton, Secretary, and George Dixey, Chairman. The signed note has flattened mail folds and light soiling to the address page. Uneven toning to the clipping. Large, bold signature by Slamm.

Levi D. Slamm (c. 1812-1862) was an American labor leader, the editor of the Daily Plebeian, and a leader of New York City's Locofocos. The Locofocos, originally named the Equal Rights Party, were a faction of the Democratic Party that existed from 1835 until the mid-1840s and arose out of a rejection of Tammany Hall. Slamm joined the Locofocos following the economic troubles of the 1830s and soon became one of the most influential members (in part through his publication of the radical periodical the Daily Plebeian). Slamm would later help strike a deal with the Tammany Hall General Committee in 1838 to unite the two fractured halves of New York's Democratic Party.
