"Our Loss. The Great National Calamity. Death of the President. Sad Details of the Terrible Event. The Last Moments of the President. Scene At The Death Bed…John Wilkes Booth the Assassin. Secretary Seward Thought to be Out of Danger. Frederick Seward No Better…Inauguration of Vice President Johnson as President of the United States. Mr. Lincoln's Polity to be Carried Out…"

[Sec. Stanton to Gen. Dix]: "The President continues insensible, and is sinking. Secretary Seward remains without change. Frederick Seward's skull is fractured in two places, besides a severe cut upon the head. The attendance is still alive, but hopeless. Major Seward's wounds are not dangerous. It is now ascertained with reasonable certainty that two assassins were engaged in the horrible crime - Wilkes Booth being the one that shot the president, and the other a companion of his, whose name is not known, but whose description is so clear that he can hardly escape…"

[Sec. Stanton's 2nd Despatch]: "Abraham Lincoln died this morning at twenty-two minutes after seven o'clock."

{Despatch to Mr. Clarance A. Seward from a Member of the Family]: "I have just left Mr. Seward's house. His wounds are bad, but not mortal. He is composed. He has lost much blood, but no arteries were cut. Frederick's skill is fractured badly in two places above the temples. He is insensible, and I fear will die. His brother's wounds are very slight. The Governor's throat would have been cut if he had not rolled out of bed…"

"The author of this terrible deed of blood, it is now positively asserted, is J. Wilkes Booth, the actor. The intimate knowledge he possessed of all the exits and entrances of the stage, he having performed several times in the theatre, undoubtedly facilitated his escape. Numerous rumors are in circulation respecting his capture; but he has, probably, so far, escaped the officers of the law…A reward of ten thousand dollars has been offered…"
