Nikolai I. Zavyalov, Hero of the Soviet Union, Personnel File 40+ Docs

An original Russian personnel file belonging to Nikolai Ivanovich Zavyalov, who was awarded Hero of the Soviet Union. Bound in a red "Personal Affairs" USSR records book, measuring 9" x 12.5", the archive consists of over 40 original signed documents, both written and typed, Ca. 1940-1970. Includes a signed handwritten autobiography, 8pp, penned in purple ink and accompanied by a typescript copy. Also present are his service record, service evaluations, commendations, various certifications, medical reports, and 50th birthday celebration records. In Russian, untranslated. There is a small black and white photograph of Zavyalov, measuring 3.5" x 4.5", identified on verso and stamped with a military mail stamp. Also present are documents signed by prominent Russian military figures, including Army General Aleksei Antonov (1896-1962) who became Chief of General Staff, Colonel General Issa Pliev (1903-1979) as Commander of 1st Guards Mechanized-Cavalry Group, Colonel General Mikhail Katukov (1896-1962) as Commander Mechanized & Tank Troops, Semen Timoshenko (1895-1970) as Marshal of the Soviet Union, Marshal Andrei Grechko (1903-1976) who became Minister of Defense, and Army General Koshevoy (1904-1976). Some documents are disbound, with creasing, minor folds, and small edge tears. Light toning and soiling throughout. Minor rolling to the photograph. All with bold signatures. Overall very good.

Major General Nikolai Ivanovich Zavyalov (1913-1989) served in the Soviet Army from February 1936 until February 1970, for which he was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union, the highest distinction of the Soviet Union. During the Second World War, Zavyalov was a member of the tank corps, participating in the Battle of Stalingrad in 1942. He received the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for his skillful leadership of the gun brigade during the strategic operation of Yassy-Kishinev in 1944, and later served in the Belgrade offensive later that year. The archive is an excellent source of Red Army research material and WWII and post-WWII content.

All items will ship with signature required, and full insurance. Most items are sent via Federal Express, with P. O. Box addresses being sent through USPS. We insure through Berkley Asset Protection with rates of $.70 per $100 of value, among the lowest insurance rates in the industry. Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.
