Ali Muhammad

Two 1p typed documents on "The Big Fights, Inc." letterhead, one dated July 6, 1990 signed by boxing champion Muhammad Ali (1942-2016) as "Muhammad Ali" in blue ball-point pen, and the other dated July 25, 1990 and signed by boxing promotor William Cayton (1918-2003) as "Bill Cayton" in black felt-tip pen. Both 8.5" x 11" pages are in near fine condition, with expected paper folds  and a few staple holes. Comes with a PSA/DNA Letter of Authenticity.

The July 6, 1990 contract outlined the terms of a proposed agreement between Muhammad Ali and The Big Fights, Inc., a production company founded by Bill Cayton in 1952. By signing the contract, Ali consented to the use of his voice (real-time and prerecorded) and image (real-time, in films, and in fight footage) at a July 17, 1990 Seattle, Washington banquet, and in a CBS television special of the event. Ali would receive 15% of the gross proceeds in exchange for limited reproduction rights, "in perpetuity, world-wide, and in all media, now in existence of [sic] hereafter invented." This photocopy of the letter pre-signed by Cayton was signed by Ali at left.

The July 25, 1990 follow-up letter, written roughly a week after the banquet, clarified three points relating to anticipated profit, extent of reproduction rights, and Ali's commission. It was signed by Cayton at right.

Muhammad Ali and Bill Cayton had a history. Ali was an aging boxing phenomenon in 1990, but William Cayton's production company had filmed a 79-minute documentary called "a.k.a. Cassius Clay" in 1970 that had captured the peak of the boxer's career.

Accompanied by a PSA/DNA Letter of Authenticity dated August 22, 2017 signed by services president Joe Orlando, and also a numbered Certificate of Authenticity card.
