Muhammad Ali, "Cassius Clay", Signed 1963 Press Photo Predicting Fight With Henry Cooper
Signed photograph

Fantastic black and white press photograph of boxer Muhammad Ali ahead of his bout with British boxer Henry Cooper, boldly signed at center: "To David/ from Cassius Clay". Measures 8" x 10", [London, England], [May 27, 1963]. The image shows Ali after arriving in England and holding up five fingers in a prediction of how many rounds it will take to knock out Cooper. Copyright backstamp of Central Press Photos, London on verso. Double matted and displayed to an overall size of 12" x 14". Exhibits negligible surface wear with small crease in the upper right corner. Isolated soiling on verso. Scattered handling marks throughout. Overall, very good and ready for framing.

Cassius Clay vs. Henry Cooper was a professional boxing match that took place on June 18, 1963 at Wembley Stadium. The bout was stopped by the referee in the fifth round after Cooper started bleeding excessively from a cut to the left eye. Immediately after the fight, the loudmouthed Ali retracted the abuses he directed at Cooper before the fight, declaring: "Cooper's not a bum any more. I underestimated him. He's the toughest fighter I ever met and the first to really drop me. He's a real fighter."
