Description:

Mrs. Charles Lindbergh ALS Re: Oldrin's "Eight Rings on His Tail" Book

3pp of a bifolium, measuring 5" x 4", no place, March 1, n.y. [circa 1952-1955]. A thank you card addressed to John Oldrin, signed "Anne". Written on a charming card of a "Children At Play" illustration by Ludwig Ritcher. Anne also gives her opinion on a number of stories as well, writing:

“…The Mayudias - and 'All kinds of time' (wonderful book I completely agree) and your own story of ‘Eight Rings on His Tail.’ I am sorry to have kept it so long. I think it is excellent. Perhaps even better than your first. At least it gets going to a better start. Seems easier, more relaxed, than Dasher to begin with (First Drafts, I mean). You have a practiced hand now and must go on and on – I hope! My only question was if the episode on the island is really necessary. The book seems complete without it and it is such a dramatic and out-of-the-way incident that it doesn’t quite seem in tune with The Meadow.” But perhaps I am wrong. I must say I read every bit of it with interest unflagged. And I kept imagining Alfred on Our island with the beach! So it was very real. Curiously enough though I find my credulity not strained at all by Alfred playing with the tractors but the Perigree (?) tide bothers me a little. That couldn’t happen, I say firmly, But the rest could!..." Accompanied by the original envelope, on which Anne has addressed and written "By Hand". Light toning to the card. Boldly signed. Expected wear and soiling to the envelope.

All Kinds of Time by Harry Behn was released in 1950 and was a humorous picture book dedicated to understanding the meaning of time to a small child. Both Anne and John Oldrin shared a deep love of children and writing children's stories, and they frequently communicated about the books they were writing or works they admired.
