Young Brigham

Brigham Young Signs Excellent Letter From Salt Lake City About Mormon Banknotes

Young, Brigham (1801-1877) President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) from 1847 until his death in 1877. He founded Salt Lake City and served as the first governor of the Utah Territory.

A letter signed ("Brigham Young"), 1 page, 8½ x 5¼ in., Great Salt Lake City, April 12, 1860. To "Bro. Horace": "In making these purchases it may be necessary to buy some on a credit. Now, I do not wish you to press the matter unless it is done willingly and on the terms I desire. Otherwise we had better do without although the articles I am sending for are very much needed here. Especially the stool. In giving Notes I think they allow six month or more without interest. I wish you to get the longest time possible on your notes, and without interest until they are due." Ink is slightly faded but completely legible.
