Richard Rogers (born 1933) overcame a debilitating learning disability to become one of the United Kingdom’s most controversial modernist architects. He studied architecture at the Architectural Association School of London and at Yale School of Architecture during the 1950s and early 1960s. Rogers soon became associated with the Structural Expressionist or High-Tech architectural style, which emphasized minimalism, functionality, and externalized building features like ductwork. Rogers co-designed the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris (1971-1977) and the Lloyd’s building in London (1986), while he independently conceived the Millennium Dome in London (1999).
