Minutes of the Methodist Conferences, Complete Vol. I from 1774-1813
Book
A copy of Volume One of the "Minutes of the Methodist Conferences, Annually Held in America; from 1773 to 1813, Inclusive." New York: Daniel Hitt and Thomas Ware, 1813. Sixteenmo, 612pp. The volume is a record of early Methodist Conference Minutes, detailing the development of Methodism and the people who were specifically responsible for it, specifically John Wesley. Bound in brown leather with gilt titling at the spine. Numerous previous owners' names have been written on the front pastedown and front free end page. The volume has wear, scratching, and soiling to the covers and spine. Rubbing and bumping to spine edges and corners. Cracked spine and cocked binding. Soiling, damp staining, toning, and foxing to internal pages. Areas of chipping and tears to some pages.

Originally published in pamphlet form, an initial compilation of the Methodist Conference Minutes was produced in 1794. It was widely used as a reference tool, and the necessity for this volume to be published occurred in 1813. Since that time, reprinted pamphlets have been combined and published by the General Church covering these and future Conference Minutes. The statistical growth of the Church and its annual collections provide sociological insights into the success of the movement. This volume provides traceable records of the roots and branches of the Methodist movement in American--its stations, its preachers, its presence in the ever expanding frontier settlements. The additional genealogical value is also immeasurable, as many records on early pastors has been lost to time.
