Milne Pens an Unusual Encrypted Note to his Close Friend, Vincent Seligman

Single page autograph letter signed, 5.5" x 7.5," on letterhead of 13 Mallord Street, Chelsea. S.W.3. Signed by A.A. Milne using his nickname "Blue." Undated but likely c. 1930's based on the letterhead. Near fine with center mailing fold.

Milne writes a most cryptic letter to his longtime friend Vincent Seligman. The Milnes and the Seligmans would frequently get together as couples, however in this letter Milne was proposing that he and Vincent meet after his wife has left for America and was trying to ascertain if Vincent's wife was going to be busy as well. His rather funny, obscure letter is shown below:

"Dear Vincent,

I'm afraid Daff spoke out of her turn, as I am employed on Tuesday evening. Daff is going to America on the 9th - can I come any time after that? Please. And will Bobs - etc you know what - or is she going to be you know what, etc - on whatever day it is?

I'm so sorry about Tuesday, and we are pretty busy for her last week with husband

Ever yours

Blue

High time we played golf again, and I shall make you when I'm a bachelor"

A lovely and unique letter by Milne who usually writes  more to the point, direct letters about events in his life, albeit with his own brand of dry humor.
