Description:

Meyer Lansky
n.p., n.d.
Meyer Lansky Ornate Red & Gold Plate, Ex. Lansky Family with Provenance from his Grandson!
Tableware

Meyer Lansky's elegant porcelain dessert plate, featuring a refined and highly decorative design. The plate displays a central white field adorned with an ornate gold monogram "ML," encircled by a deep burgundy band and an elaborate outer rim richly decorated in gold with classical motifs and figures. The craftsmanship reflects fine European porcelain production, with the underside bearing a "Bohemia - Made in Czechoslovakia" mark, along with an additional stamped insignia. Light surface wear consistent with use and some discoloration to verso. The plate measures 7.5" x 7.5".

Provenance: Meyer Lansky's favorite grandson, Gary Rapoport. Accompanying the piece is a provenance certificate signed by Gary Rapoport, John Reznikoff and Luke Pascal. Also included in the unique lot is a copy of additional accompanying images depicting Meyer Lansky dining around a formally arranged table featuring these exact plates in use.

Meyer Lansky (1902-1983) was a central figure in American organized crime and a key architect of the National Crime Syndicate. Closely associated with figures such as Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel, Lansky played a significant role in the development of organized gambling operations in the United States and abroad. Often referred to as the "Mob's Accountant," Lansky was known for his financial acumen and influence behind the scenes of major criminal enterprises.

One can only imagine that meals served on such finely appointed tableware were not merely social occasions, but gatherings where important conversations unfolded quietly over dinner. Discussions that ranged from business dealings and financial arrangements to personal alliances and strategic decisions, all conducted in a discreet environment.

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
