Description:

Meschech Weare
Exeter, NH, August 29, 1783
Meschech Weare Signed Pay Warrant Issued to Constitution Signer John Langdon
DS

Meschech Weare signed pay warrant as President of New Hampshire. 1p., 7.375" x 3.75" (sight); Exeter, New Hampshire; August 29, 1783. Document directs John T. Gilman to pay John Langdon "the sum of five pounds six shillings." Signed, "M Weare." Matted and framed to an overalls size of 12" x 8.625". With punch-hole cancellation at top center affecting a few letters and scattered soiling. Not examined out of the frame. A choice and desirable financial document from New Hampshire.

Per an old catalog description, the document is presumed to have an endorsement signature on the verso by John Langdon, a signer of the U.S. Constitution. Weare was the first president of New Hampshire, serving from 1776 to 1784. Langdon would succeed him serving from 1785 to 1786 and from 1788 to 1789. He would assume leadership of the state again when the title was changed to governor from 1810 to 1812 and from 1805 to 1809.

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
