[GEORGE WASHINGTON.] Jesse Bridwell, Manuscript Document Signed, Memo for Renting Lot Vacated by Benjamin Brady, May 24, 1786, [Virginia]. 1 p., 10" x 8". Triangle of paper missing from center, affecting two lines of text; light toning; minor edge tears.

This memorandum, signed by Jesse Bridwell on May 24, 1786, agrees to rent a lot owned by George Washington until December 1786 for £7. According to the document, the previous tenant was Benjamin Brady. Abel Morgan and Henry Shores signed the document as witnesses. None of these names appear in Washington's papers, including a list of his tenants in Berkeley, Fauquier, and Loudoun counties from September 1785.

Jesse Bridwell may have been a son of Abraham Bridwell (1700-1785) of Stafford County, Virginia.

Memberandom for renting a lot of land Belonging to his Exelency General Washington Whare Benjamin Brady went from the Tenent is to have peaceable persesion for the year Eighty six with his paying seven pound of rent and to give up persesion at the twentyeth day of December in the yeare Eighty six the Tenement to be in as good repair as when Recd and likewise to Comit no wast of Timber nor make aney sail of that sort and two uphold the orchad also and to alow general Wasington or any so impowered by him to sow small grain Without Ingering the Crop that is growing more than can be Reasonable Expected. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.

Upon winning your item(s), you will receive an invoice with our in-house shipping and handling fees included. ***We will ship to the address as it appears on your invoice. If any changes to the shipping address need to be made, you must inform us immediately.***

International shipments: In order to comply with our insurance provider, all international shipments will be sent via Fed Ex and customs paperwork will show a value of $1.00. International buyers should contact our office directly with any questions regarding this policy.

Third-Party Shipping Option: If a third-party shipper is preferred, the buyer is responsible for contacting them directly to make shipping arrangements. For your convenience, we have provided some recommended shippers. For your protection, we will require a signed release from you, confirming your authorization for us to release your lots to your specified third-party. At that point, our responsibility and insurance coverage for your item(s) ceases. Items picked up by third-party shippers are required to pay Connecticut sales tax. Items requiring third-party shipping due to being oversized, fragile or bulky will be denoted in the item description.
