Monroe Marilyn

Marilyn Monroe signed release allowing her blonde bombshell name to be used in the movie, The Green-Eyed Blonde

Single page typed letter signed by Marilyn Monroe, 8" x 10.25". Dated "May 7, 1957", and written to Warner Bros. Pictures, granting them permission to use her name in their film titled "Green Eyes;" signed by her in black fountain pen ink in the lower, right-side corner as 'Marilyn Monroe". Handsomely double-matted and framed with a portrait to an overall size of 25.5" x 19". In fine condition.

The dialogue which Monroe granted permission to use was for the film, the Green-eyed Blonde: "JOYCE: / (before mirror) / How's my hair? / BETSY: / (genuine admiration) / It's beautiful, Joyce! / JOYCE: / (preening herself) / It's kind of the way Marilyn Monroe does hers." The film was released by Warner Bros. on December 14, 1957.

Marylin personified the image of sex symbol by the very early 1950's as referenced in the movie 'Green Eyes', having appeared in more than 6 films in 1950 alone. By 1954 Monroe sealed her reputation as a bombshell in the Seven Year Itch, which both catapulted her career while simultaneously ending her marriage to DiMaggio when she posed standing on a subway grate with the air blowing up the skirt of her white dress. However by the mid 1950's, Monroe had already gained a reputation for being difficult on film sets; she was often late, disheveled, or did not show up at all, did not remember her lines, and would demand several re-takes before she was satisfied with her performance. Monroe's dependence on her acting coaches—first Natasha Lytess and later Paula Strasberg—also irritated directors. Monroe's problems have been attributed to a combination of perfectionism, low self-esteem, and stage fright. To alleviate her anxiety and chronic insomnia, she began to use barbiturates, amphetamines and alcohol.

The year that Monroe signed this document release, she was in the midst of filming The Prince and the Showgirl a 1957 British-American romantic comedy film starring herself and Laurence Olivier. Olivier also served as director and producer, however filming was marred with difficulties as was now the norm working with Monroe by this phase of her career. By the end of production, it has been said that Monroe caused Olivier "to age 15 years.

A fantastic piece with a stunning presentation, and a large 3.75" full signature by Marilyn Monroe!
