Marilyn Monroe Personally Owned & Worn Glass Beaded Necklace, Ex. Christie's 1999 Landmark Sale
Jewelry

An exquisite beaded glass necklace, approximately 24" in length, owned and worn by Marilyn Monroe. Originating from one of the most celebrated auctions in memorabilia history: Christie's New York sale of Monroe's personal property held in October 1999. Sold as part of Lot 248, this necklace was among a grouping of jewelry that collectively realized over $36,000, underscoring the enduring allure and market value of items personally associated with the iconic star. Elegantly displayed in a custom mat ready for framing, measuring 31.25" x 19.5" overall.

What sets this necklace apart is not only its provenance, but the presence of the original Christie's auction tag. The recto bears a red facsimile of Marilyn's signature, while the reverse identifies it as Lot 248 from the 1999 sale, clearly documenting its authenticity and history.

This particular necklace is nearly identical to one photographed within Christie's original auction catalog, featured on page 172. While the offered example features five beads connected to the tie bar, the other (second from the left) instead shows six, but otherwise aligns in both style and design. Indeed, the catalog photo may suggest that some beads are darker in tone, however this effect is due to the mirrored surfaces of the beads, which reflect ambient light and color. In person, the necklace exhibits an exotic, luminous quality that shifts with movement and lighting- an attribute that adds to its theatrical appeal and glamour.

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
