Description:

Monroe Marilyn

Niagara Movie Starring Marilyn Monroe, 1952 Script

A vintage movie script from Niagara, starring blonde bombshell Marilyn Monroe (1926-1962) in her first movie role with top billing. The studio-bound and bradded screenplay runs 120pp, and was cowritten by Walter Reisch, Richard L. Green, and Charles Brackett. The orange card stock softcovers are a little worn, with wrinkles and minor chipped edges. The interior is clean and crisp, and in very good to near fine condition. Comes with a Profiles in History Certificate of Authenticity from their "Essentially Marilyn Auction," December 2018.

The front cover of the script is stamped "NIAGARA / March 28, 1952 / Property of Twentieth Century-Fox Film Corporation" (with movie studio logo) at center, and also "2519 / Revised Final" at upper right. The spine is printed with the movie title and date.

Niagara was a film noir produced by 20th Century Fox. The 88-minute-long film was shot during the summer of 1952 and released in January 1953, during what would be one of the most successful years of Monroe's career. (In addition to the wildly popular Niagara, Monroe also starred in 1953's Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and How to Marry a Millionaire.)

Monroe plays Rose Loomis, described in our March 1952 script version as a "blonde, beautiful, animal-like girl of twenty-four" (p. 2.) Rose is unhappily married to a much older Korean War vet George, played by co-star Joseph Cotten. The climax of the movie takes place on the top of one of Niagara Falls' top tourist attractions, the Carillon Bell Tower, where George confronts Rose about her extramarital affair and conspiracy to commit murder.

Our script does not reflect all of the finished dialogue, or even the major plot developments, of the final screenplay. This is reflected most dramatically in Rose Loomis' death scene. The two scripts are shown side one after another:

Too bad they can't play it for you now, Rose…

Here's your lipstick. Wherever you are, you'll still be wanting it. I loved you, Rose. You know that."
