Description:

Banks Nathaniel

Major General Nathaniel Banks' Civil War Starr carbine rifle, owned & used - Included is iron-clad documentation as well as a "copy" of a letter from Banks to his wife.

Comprises:

General Banks' Civil War Starr Carbine Rifle. Without pin that holds the hammer works in place. All parts still move freely. Patina present. Rarely does one have an opportunity to own a firearm of a Civil War General.

The "copy" of the accompanying letter reads in full, "My dear Wife, No letters from you today. I hope you are well. You will be surprised I am sure - Mr. Kelly my tailor from Philadelphia insisted today upon my ordering a suit of clothes saying it was discreditable to the Gov't. that I am not better dressed. His philosophy is that being long in body & short in legs like Douglas & Napoleon I need a dark coat & vest and light pants. I am to wear a mulberry or dahlia colored coat with velvet collar and and pants of uncertain color but light. I shall be pleased. My bill he says may stand until I am ready which again pleases me - for I never felt poorer than now. I shall be pleased to get letters to night and more pleased to see you when you can come on Sunday. / (signed) NPB / God bless our darling children."
