Titled on cover "The Magnifying Glass" / "Critical Observations / of the Rommel Course / 21 April to 9 May 1934 / in the Sennelager." Poetry throughout. On the first page is a 24 line rhyming poem in German translating into: "The course leader Major Rommel / He was once the drum, / short for a course and square / He was speechless with routine." In German "drum" is " Werbetrommel" which rhymes with Rommel! A caricature of Rommel in profile is on this page.

An inner page with a 10 line poem is titled "Psycho Analyse." On the last page, upon which 40 have signed (most probably by students and instructors), is a 12 line rhyming poem which includes the word "Führer."

Erwin Rommel was an instructor at the Dresden Infantry School from 1929-1933 before he taught this course at Senne from April-May 1934. He met Hitler for the first time on September 30, 1934. In October 1934, Rommel was posted to the Infantry School in Potsdam as an instructor.
