The book was later repurposed for handwriting practice and to document labor and cash crop costs. At the back have been pasted typed recipes for cured mutton ham, chicken pie, French soup, apple bread, and other popular recipes of the time. There are also handwritten recipes for doughnuts and frosting, mock oyster soup, chili sauce, tomato ketchup, and fish chowder. A number of pages appear to have been cut out of the book and there is a section of pages that look to have come out of the book. With edge toning to the internal pages and some edge chipping. The binding is cracked and some of the pages are loose. Foxing and soiling to internal pages. The cover is worn and scratched, and the corners are bumped.
