Kelly Grace 1928 - 1982 Lovely Grace Kelly TLS to Leonard Lyons on the Grand Prix in Monaco
Single page TLS, on stationary with Royale letterhead, 6" x 7.5". Signed and dated by Princess Grace (Grace Kelly), as "Grace", and dated "January 30, 1967".Light creasing to one corner, else near fine.

A lovely letter by Grace Kelly to Leonard Lyons, an American newspaper columnist who travelled the world and sent back daily columns, sometimes giving his column to New York bound travelers with a request that they contact the paper upon arrival. He avoided writing about scandal in his column, and thus earned the trust of the many figures he met. Grace Kelly's letter to him thanked him for the newspaper clipping and noted she was sending him photos for his newspaper files. She also inquired if he was coming to the "Grand Prix" held in Monaco. Their exchanges and her ease to send him photos and information demonstrate the incredible rapport and trust she had in him as a newspaper columnist.

Her letter to him is shown in full below:

'"Dear Leonard, January 30, 1967

Thank you for sending the clippings to us, which we enjoyed reading.

I am sending you, however, some new photographs for your newspaper's files, as the one constantly used in your column is rather old and not one of my best!

Will you get over for the Grand Prix?

Warm regards,

Grace

Mr. Leonard Lyons"

The Monaco Grand Prix referred to by Grace Kelly is a Formula One motor race held each year on the Circuit de Monaco. Run since 1929, it is widely considered to be one of the most important and prestigious automobile races in the world, and with the Indianapolis 500, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans forms the Triple Crown of Motorsport. The circuit has been called "an exceptional location of glamour and prestige".

The race is held on a narrow course laid out in the streets of Monaco, with many elevation changes and tight corners as well as a tunnel, making it one of the most demanding tracks in Formula One. In spite of the relatively low average speeds, it is a dangerous place to race and often involves the intervention of a safety car. It is the only Grand Prix that does not adhere to the FIS's mandated 305 kilometre (190 mile) minimum race distance.

Princess Grace Kelly was known for her incredible regal presence and serenity. Her wonderful warm letter to Leonard evokes both. Her tragic accidental passing in 1982, at the young age of 52, leaves little in the way of signed pieces by her, with this example in wonderful highly collectible condition.
