Lincoln Abraham 1809 - 1865 Lincoln mourning display in honor of the slain President, consisting of several artifacts from his life and death

A spectacular set of artifacts revolving around the death of President Lincoln. Framed and matted to 13" x 12". Mat lightly toned, slightly grubby. Descriptions handwritten under each window in graphite by John Campbell. Not examined outside of frame.

Comprises:

1. A large, well preserved quilted piece of the inaugural carriage window trim fabric 3.5" x 10.75", with the date of 1865 in large numbers (1.5" x 2.75") sewn/embroided onto the fabric. Period pin securing the small handwritten note stating "A. Lincoln"

2. Dried flowers with scripted caption in graphite "from grave of A. Lincoln"

3. Small carte-de-visite of "the conspirators"

4. Small carte-de-visite (2" x 3.5") with graphite scripted caption "Gen. Pitchers house at Soldiers Home Washington once occupied by Prest A Lincoln"

5. Carte-de-visite of Andrew Johnson with scripted graphite caption "Andrew Johnson/the new President"

A unique set of commemorative pieces surrounding the death of Lincoln, with excellent provenance

Provenance:

Belonging to John Campbell, who enlisted in September 1864 as a surgeon for the 178th Ohio Infantry. The regiment served in the siege of Murfreesboro and was later involved in pursuing Joseph E. Johnston's army that surrendered at Greensboro, North Carolina.

We may opt to use a third party shipper for very fragile, bulky or oversized items. Items requiring third party shipping will be denoted in the item description. Packages shipped internationally will have full value declared on shipping form. International buyers will be responsible for any customs fees incurred.
