Brezhnev Leonid

Leonid I. Brezhnev signed Soviet book

Leonid I. Brezhnev (1906-1982) biography signed by its subject, General Secretary of the Communist Party Leonid Brezhnev, as "Leonid Brezhnev." The Soviet era Russian language book is entitled Leonid Ilrich Brezhnev: Revival and appears to have been published by the Soviet government in 1981, when Brezhnev's health was in decline.

Hardcover copy with blue boards, gilt stamped spine, and original laminated dust jacket depicting a stylized red hammer, sickle, and star. Dedicated to an unknown recipient and signed by Brezhnev in black felt tip pen on the full title page, facing a color print of Brezhnev after an oil painting done by Russian Realist artist Vasily Vasilyevich Abakumov (1923-1987). A few discolored spots on pages 8-9, otherwise near fine. The dust jacket with expected light wear. The 16mo book measures 6.75" x 4.5" x .5".

This 151pp signed biography includes 10 chapters and multiple black and white photos. The book appears to concentrate on Brezhnev's immediate postwar activities, between the years 1946-1949. The text should yield interesting discoveries when fully translated.

Leonid Brezhnev was born in modern day Ukraine. Educated as a metallurgical engineer, he joined the Communist Party in 1929 and served in the role of a political commissar during World War II. Brezhnev was promoted by Stalin in 1952, and after a series of similar career advancements, succeeded Nikita Khrushchev as the General Secretary of the Communist Party in 1964; he served in this role until his death in 1982.
