Description:

Oswald, Lee Harvey (1939-1963) Warren Commission Exhibit No. 317. Lee Harvey Oswald addresses and signs a colorful May Day envelope to his brother

May Day pictorial envelope, 6" x 4.5", addressed by Lee Harvey Oswald to his brother: "USA / Fort Worth, Texas / 7313 Davenport St. / Robert Oswald," handwriting his return address and signing his name in Russian: "Minsk 29 / ul. Kalinina / House 4-24 / L.H. Oswald." Part of Warren Commission Exhibit No. 317. Pictured on page 879 of Volume XVI of the Warren Commission Hearings. Fine condition.

In the letter enclosed in this envelope, not present (Warren Commission Exhibit 317 photocopy included), Oswald tells his brother, in part, "I got a letter from the Marine Corps. not to long ago I sent them a request for a re-hearing on my undiceable [sic, undesirable] discharge. I told them I would be back in the U.S. after May 25, and they could contact me through your address"

From the collection of Dr. John K. Lattimer (1914-2007). The family of President John F. Kennedy chose Dr. Lattimer to be the first nongovernmental medical specialist to review evidence in Kennedy's assassination. On January 7, 1972, at the National Archives, Dr. Lattimer examined 65 X-rays, color transparencies, and black-and-white negatives taken during Kennedy's autopsy, concluding, according to "The New York Times," that "they 'eliminate any doubt completely' about the validity of the Warren Commission's conclusion that Lee Harvey Oswald fired all the shots that struck the President."
