Description:

Large Photo of G.W. Bush 2008 Shoeing Signed By M. al-Zaida

A 20" x 16" color photograph of President George W. Bush and Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki during an Iraqi press conference on December 14, 2008 at which Iraqi journalist Muntadhar al-Zaida threw his shoes at President Bush. Includes an image of al-Zaida inscribing photos. In near fine condition.

Penned in black felt tip, al-Zaida describes why he accosted the former president -- an act of defiance that would result in a three-year prison conviction for assaulting a foreign head of state. This event inspired similar acts of political protest throughout the Middle East.

al-Zaida's handwritten, signed statement reads in full, "Everyone had been repeating George W. Bush's claim that we greeted him with roses, and the world unfortunately believed this lie. That's why my idea was to find a solution in accordance with Newton's Third Law that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. I chased George W. Bush everywhere so that I could show the world my protest by throwing my shoes at him. I expected to be killed for it."

"He says I was trying to gain attention for myself, but I say to him I was trying to turn attention to my people who are deprived of their rights and murdered. It is a peaceful message of protest against mass murder. I recently saw one of G.W.'s paintings. What a coincidence that the two men who have immersed themselves in the war most deeply were painters: Hitler and Bush."
