Archive
A sizeable archive consisting of assorted historical documents, including miscellaneous manuscripts (i.e. land grants and deeds), appointments/certificates, and illustrations. Totaling 21 pages in all, ranging in date from 1762 to 1875. Exhibits varying degrees of darkened toning, soiling, and tearing throughout; areas of archival restoration present to some with moderate wear to all. Good to fair conditions. A diverse collection of items, worthy of further research!

Highlights include:

1.) 6 various presidential engravings depicting John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and James Monroe.

2.) Hamilton Fish signed citizenship document, naming one Frank S. Billings "a citizen of the United States accompanied by his wife & minor son". No. 46512, Washington, D.C., June 28, 1875. 12" x 18".

3.) 6p land indenture between one John Taylor and Frank Bayard Winthrop, both merchants of New York, dated September 29, 1802. Pages are bound together with pink ribbon, signed by both parties on last page. 23.5" x 19" overall, folds to a size of 11.75" x 19".

4.) Membership document for the London Medical Society, presented to one Lyman Spalding, M.D. 1p on vellum, untranslated in Latin, London, England, ca. 1810. 13" x 14.5".

5.) Oversized sketch of "Laocoön and His Sons". 12.75" x 19.25".

6.) 6pp of British soldiers having had subscriptions in India and England, the latter being Commissioners for the Affairs of India, listed in alphabetical order. Undated. 14.5" x 20.75".

7.) Various land deeds for property in New York. Dated May 6, 1762; August 15, 1780; and February 26, 1803. Recipients include individuals of Dutch origin. Measuring between 13" x 16.25" and 21.25" x 30".

8.) Pair of identical engravings depicting circular portraits of General John Aaron Rawlins and George Meade over the Gettysburg battlefield. Each 16.5" x 21.5".

9.) Illustrated newspaper clipping with engraving by Alfred R. Waud titled "Review by the President of the Cavalry of the Army of the Potomac- General Buford's Division of Regulars". 14" x 20.5".

10.) Partial-printed appointment from the Military Order of the Loyal Legion, naming Lt. Commander Edward Augustus Walker, U.S.N. a "companion of the first class of the Military Order…". No. 1286, Philadelphia, January 4, 1871. 19" x 24".

11.) Oversized print depicting the S.S. City of Peking, built for the Pacific Mail Steamship Company. 19.75" x 30".

Unless otherwise indicated, we do our own in-house worldwide shipping!

Applicable shipping and handling charges will be added to the invoice. We offer several shipping options, and remain one of the few auction houses who proudly provides professional in-house shipping as an option to our clients. All items will ship with signature required, and full insurance. Most items are sent via Federal Express, with P. O. Box addresses being sent through USPS. We insure through Berkley Asset Protection with rates of $.70 per $100 of value, among the lowest insurance rates in the industry. Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.

Upon winning your item(s), you will receive an invoice with our in-house shipping and handling fees included. ***We will ship to the address as it appears on your invoice. If any changes to the shipping address need to be made, you must inform us immediately.***

International shipments: In order to comply with our insurance provider, all international shipments will be sent via Fed Ex and customs paperwork will show a value of $1.00. International buyers should contact our office directly with any questions regarding this policy.

Third Party Shipping Option: If a third party shipper is preferred, the buyer is responsible for contacting them directly to make shipping arrangements. For your convenience, we have provided some recommended shippers. For your protection, we will require a signed release from you, confirming your authorization for us to release your lots to your specified third party. At that point, our responsibility and insurance coverage for your item(s) ceases. Items picked up by third party shippers are required to pay Connecticut sales tax. Items requiring third party shipping due to being oversized, fragile or bulky will be denoted in the item description.
