Description:

Kurt Westergaard Signed Unicorn and Inkwell Watercolor with ALS on Verso

1p, measuring 10.5" x 8", no place [Denmark], dated January 19, 2009. A colorful watercolor of a unicorn, with a fountain pen horn and an inkwell saddle topped by a jester's hat. Captioned "Fantasy…Freedom of expressions untamed cousin" and signed "KW." On verso, Westergaard has addressed a lengthy letter to "Ben", regarding his upcoming surgery and the recent U.S. presidential election. Signed at the conclusion "Kurt", the letter reads in full:

"Thank you very much for your last letter, and the portrait. And thank you very much for the invitation to the US. I have some problems with my knee and I am waiting for surgery. So I think, I will not be able to come to America till spring. Congratulations with your new president. The European expectations are great! We are very dependent of USA. We do not know where USA is going, in which direction, but we are convinced that USA will breake any speed record to get there. In spite of the crisis I think that Gitte and I will be able to overcome it. We are not shareholders! And we are still working part time, and then we have the Danish wellfare state, more popular than ever, by the Danes, and by the banks, which now are on a very expensive well fare! O.K. years ago Denmark have abolished poverty and we will never see it again. I hope that you will have a good new 2009 year. The best wishes to your and your family."

The letter contains several grammatical errors, as Westergaard's first language is not English. With light wear to the corners and faint soiling. Boldly signed.
