Description:

Kurt Westergaard Signed Galloping Horse Watercolor with ALS on Verso

1p, measuring 7" x 11.5", no place [Denmark], dated July 9, 2010. A colorful watercolor of a skyline, with a small red horse galloping at the bottom. Signed "KW." On verso, Westergaard has addressed a lengthy letter to "Ben", regarding a portrait he was sent. Signed at the conclusion "Kurt", the letter reads in full:

"Thank you very much for the very, very good portrait. It is me and I appreciate it very much. I am sorry for my late answer. I have been away for some time. Now I am back, enjoying the beautiful Danish summer. If you and your wife come here next summer I would like to (try) to do a portrait of you even if I am not a master like you. Perhaps you could learn me how. It was nice to hear from you, and again, thank you very much for the good portrait."

The letter contains several grammatical errors, as Westergaard's first language is not English. With light wear to the corners and on verso. Boldly signed.

Kurt Westergaard (b. 1935) is a Danish cartoonish, most famous for his controversial cartoon, published in September 2005, of a terrorist. Although not the prophet Muhammad (as many believed it was) the cartoon was met with strong reactions from Muslims around the world, who condemned the image and its artist. Danish Prime Minister Anders Rasmussen described the controversy as the country's worst international relations incident since World War II. Since its publication, Westergaard has received numerous death threats and been a target of at least three assassination attempts.
