Khrushchev Nikita 1894 - 1971

Important war-dated Khrushchev order requesting a much needed 20 carloads of cement. The lack of building materials had delayed reconstruction of the Kramatorsk plant taken back by Russia from the Germans, who had been using it to produce tanks for the German Army.

War-dated typed telegram signed "N.S. Khrushchev" in Russian as Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party (Bolsheviks) of Ukraine [CP(b)U], 1 page, 8" x 5.5". Ukraine, March 13, 1944. Numbered "172". With full English translation. File hole and paper loss at blank left edge. Fine condition.

Headed: "Higher Government Telegram / Volsk Bolshevik Cement Plant to Grinev / Saratov Party Regional Committee to Komarov / Saratov to the Head of the Ryazan-Ural Railroad Shmelev." In full: "A shortage of cement is delaying the work associated with the Kramatorsk plants. I request that you ensure the shipment of the Narkomstroy March plan figure of twenty carloads of cement, railroad Kramatorsk station, recipient Donmashstroy OSMCh. Advise of execution."

In 1941, the German Army took over the Kramatorsk plant which had made heavy machinery for Russia's iron and steel industry. The Germans used the plant to repair and produce tanks and other heavy equipment. The plant employed 2,000 Russian workers under the supervision of the Krupp Company.
