Description:

[Kennedy Assassination] Family Photograph Album Ft. Motorcade Images Moments Before Assassination

A family photo album (approximately 30p, unpaginated) compiled by one Lucien Bruce, a head of marketing for the Eastman Kodak Company in Dallas, TX, which features two full color photographs depicting the President's motorcade moments before Kennedy was fatally shot. The two images of note can be found on page 19, the first depicting Governor John Connally and wife Nellie Connally seated in front, with President John F. Kennedy, and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy in the back seat of the presidential limousine, while the second shows Vice President Lyndon Johnson and Lady Bird Johnson riding in a separate vehicle two cars behind in the procession. Both feature docketing along bottom border and a Kodak watermark on verso with stamp declaring it as printed in February 1965, nearly two years after the assassination took place. The rest of the album contains an array of personal photographs, many depicting relatives and children, with nice early twentieth century scenes included in the front pages. Exhibits varying degrees of creasing, minor soiling, and silvering to some images, else very good. A contemporary example of the assassination's effect on American families!

The President and First Lady were traveling in a motorcade through downtown Dallas when Kennedy was struck by gunman Lee Harvey Oswald who was stationed in a nearby building. Also riding in the President's limo was Texas governor John Connally, who was seriously wounded during the incident but was able to make a full recovery. While their vehicle was immediately rushed to Parkland Memorial Hospital after the shots were fired, the President was tragically declared dead in the emergency room. This resulted in a quick succession to the presidency from them-Vice President Johnson amid the shock of Kennedy's death, which he viewed as an important move in providing stability to the country. He was in turn sworn in on Air Force One during their trip back to Washington, just over two hours after the assassination.
