Judy Garland PSA Birthday AN to 3rd Husband Sid Luft: "To coin a phrase - 'I'M WITH YOU!' - Thank God"
AN
A 1p autograph note penned by American entertainer Judy Garland (1922-1969). N.d. but ca. June 22, 1956, or Judy's 34th birthday. [Los Angeles, California.] Garland's 25-word inscription on a leaf of her custom stationery, with its bright red "JLG" monogram at the letterhead. Encapsulated and PSA/DNA certified authentic. Expected wear including flattened paper folds and slight edge darkening, else near fine. The actual size of the leaf is 7.25" x 10.125" while the slab measures 9.625" x 13.25."

Garland addressed this effusive note in her distinctive handwriting to her third husband, Sidney "Sid" Luft (1915-2005). Luft was Garland's tour manager, producer, caregiver, and emotional advisor. He had presented Garland with a custom diamond bracelet for her 34th birthday, financed by some of his recent $18,000 in craps game winnings. Garland was enchanted, writing in full:

"My wonderfully attractive Sid -
Thank you for giving me the
happiest birthday of my whole life
To coin a phrase - 'I'M WITH YOU!' - Thank God."

Sid Luft recounts the event in his posthumously published biography, Sid Luft, forward by Randy L. Schmidt, "Judy & I: My Life With Judy Garland" (Sid Luft Living Trust, 2017). Luft wrote: "When we got back to Los Angeles I had a diamond bracelet designed for Judy's birthday. It was delicate yet opulent. We celebrated with the Bogarts [Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart] at Romanoff's [the famous Beverly Hills restaurant] with supper, cake, and champagne. Judy placed a note on my bedside table. It was written on her monogrammed JLG stationery: 'My wonderfully attractive Sid - / Thank you for giving me the happiest birthday of my whole life. / To coin a phrase, 'I'm with you,' Thank God." The book is unpaginated but is divided into parts and chapters, with this account appearing in Chapter 32, or the events of 1956.

Garland and Luft were married between 1952-1965. This Garland autograph note dates from a particularly frenetic period in Garland's life, just before her five-week-long guest residency at Las Vegas's New Frontier Hotel and Casino, during the summer of 1956.
