A fine content typed letter signed by U.S. District Judge Sarah T. Hughes, one page, 8" x 10.5", Washington, October 14, 1964. To Marshall E. Bean in Fullerton, PA, discussing her relationship with John F. Kennedy. Additional folds, otherwise very good.

Less than a year after Kennedy's assassination, Hughes reflects: "…I am glad to write you another letter in regard to my friendship with President Kennedy…I first met the President when he was campaigning for office in 1960, and rode with him and Lyndon Johnson from Ft. Worth to Dallas. At that time he made a very outstanding speech and thousands of people lined up to see and touch him. I next saw him at the time of his Inauguration in January 1961, and the third time I had the privilege of being with him was in March of 1962 when I appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee which as considering my appointment…Lyndon Johnson took took all four of the new United States District Judges in Texas to the White House to see the President. He was so kind and friendly, and a little boy who was with us…received from him a PT boat clasp which the President had been wearing on his necktie…".

Sarah T. Hughes (1896-1985) was a United States District Court Judge for the Northern District of Texas. She is best remembered as the judge who swore-in Johnson after Kennedy was assassinated.
