"Journal of our Tour in the Black Forest, Sept. 1890" is a holograph description of Margaret's visit to the Black Forest region in Germany with her husband and daughter, neatly accomplished in black ink with numerous ink illustrations throughout. Destinations mentioned include Dover, Calais, Amiens, Reims, Epernay, Strasbourg, Titisee, the Feldberg and Feldsee, Freiberg, Konstanz, Lindau, Munich, Gmunden, and Vienna, with illustrations of many scenes a traveler might encounter, including chateaux, nature, crowds, individual portraits of persons encountered along the way, a music recital, and even her luggage.

Margaret Mitford Tyssen-Amherst (1835-1919) was the only child of Admiral Robert Mitford. She married William Tyssen-Amherst, 1st Baron Amherst of Hackney. The couple had six daughters.

Margaret's book "A Sketch of Egyptian History" was published in 1904. She was also a member of the Ladies' Grand Council of the Primrose League, founded in 1883 to commemorate the work of Benjamin Disraeli. Its aim was the maintenance of religion, the monarchy, the constitution, the unity of the commonwealth and the improvement of the condition of the people. (Archives of the London School of Economics and Political Science)

Margaret travelled with her husband, William "Fardie" Tyssen-Amherst, 1st Baron Amherst of Hackney (1835-1909), a noted art/antiquities collector and Egyptologist who was the first financial backer of behind the search and discovery of the tomb of King Tutankhamun. They were accompanied by Sybil Margaret Tyssen-Amherst (1858-1926), a noted watercolorist.

Beautifully written, the sophisticated narrative is detailed and most interesting! Worthy of further research.
