Salk Jonas

Jonas Salk signed photo with the March Of Dimes, the Polio research foundation

Black and White signed and inscribed print photo 8.5" x 6.5" (sight), and 10" x 8" to outer margins. Signed below the image by Jonas Salk " and Jonas Salk", and signed and inscribed by Basil O'Connor as "To William Gold, with sincere regards from Basil O'Connor". Small 1/2" abrasions to verso, else near fine.

A great photo of the 3 significant players who spearheaded the campaign combating Polio. Signed and inscribed by both Jonas Salk and Basil O'Connor with The March Of Dimes banner in the background. In sequence, The March Of Dimes, previously known as National Foundation For Infantile Paralysis, was a foundation originally created by Roosevelt to aid in the funding for research against Polio. This foundation became the primary funding source for Salk’s vaccine trials. Employing “poster children” and enlisting the star power of celebrities from Mickey Rooney to Mickey Mouse, the grassroots organization run by Roosevelt’s former Wall Street law partner Basil O’Connor was raising more than $20 million per year by the late 1940s.

A fantastic photo commemorating the achievements of the combined efforts of the main players, the legal arm to initiate the fundraising efforts, the organization who solicited and funded the research, and the researcher. This combined effort culminated in the development of the vaccine by Salk, and ended the worldwide terror of Polio. Would be attractive framed.
